Smart Art
As part of the implementation process, an ambitious and cohesive medium-term planning demonstrating the progression of core knowledge (substantive) and skills (disciplinary) pupils will acquire in their study of Art in each year group will be curated. The medium-term plan will feature an overarching enquiry question which will map out the learning journey of pupils including their extended experiences and learning outcomes. The medium-term plan will be translated into child-friendly enquiry questions which will guide the learning journey of the pupils. Impact of this implementation process will include clear and precise triangulation between the medium-term plans, pupils' learning (as seen during learning observations), extended learning experiences and pupils’ books.
Wings of Creativity - EYFS
To create this delightful masterpiece, Reception pupils drew inspiration from both their science lessons on the life cycle of a butterfly and the bold, playful artwork of Yayoi Kusama, a Japanese artist known for her iconic use of polka dots. Blending these two themes, the children designed vibrant, polka-dotted petals surrounding a butterfly at the centre—beautifully representing their understanding of nature through an artistic lens. This piece is a joyful celebration of their growing knowledge in both art and science, where creativity and curiosity come together in full bloom.
Shapes of Emotion - KS1
Year 1 took inspiration from the bold and vibrant work of Kandinsky, who used abstract shapes and colours to express emotion through art. During Art Week, our young artists experimented with collage and oil pastels to create their own expressive masterpieces. This picture showcases one of those wonderful creations—an imaginative piece that draws on Kandinsky’s style, celebrating the freedom of shape, colour, and creativity.
Artistry like Clockwork - LKS2
During Art Week, Year 4 found inspiration in their visit to the Electric Dreams exhibition at the Tate, where they explored how maths and science can be expressed through the lens of art. Energised by what they saw, the pupils turned their creative spark into something truly unique, designing timeless clocks that captured different moments of the day. Each piece is a beautiful blend of imagination, pattern, and precision.
Circles of Creativity - UKS2
This art piece celebrates the creativity of pupils in year 5 following their study of the Yayaoi Kusama, an artist from Japan whose ability to create repetitive patterns, often using shapes such as circles, dots and lines has aroused the curiosity of our pupils. Using her style, pupils in year 5 produced an array of art pieces as part of the art week.
