Natural Sciences

As part of the implementation process, an ambitious and cohesive medium-term planning demonstrating the progression of core knowledge (substantive) and skills (disciplinary) pupils will acquire in their study of science in each year group will be curated.  The medium-term plan will feature an overarching enquiry question which will map out the learning journey of pupils including their extended experiences and learning outcomes. The medium-term plan will be translated into child-friendly enquiry questions which will guide the learning journey of the pupils. Impact of this implementation process will include clear and precise triangulation between the medium-term plans, pupils' learning (as seen during learning observations), extended learning experiences and pupils’ books.

Bog Baby Habitats - EYFS

In Reception, pupils have been enchanted by the story of Bog Baby. To bring the story to life, they ventured out to the park to explore what a real habitat for a Bog Baby might look like. As young nature detectives, they carefully considered what this magical creature would need to live and thrive. One lively discussion centred around the need for food, specifically, whether grass would be enough. This picture celebrates one pupil’s imaginative idea of what Bog Baby might eat, showing thoughtful connections between storytelling, nature, and creative thinking.

Reuse, Repurpose, Recycle - KS1

In Year 2, as part of their learning about climate change, pupils became young eco-explorers, delving into the importance of recycling. Using the school environment they investigated how everyday materials can be reused and repurposed, linking their discoveries to their science lessons on materials. This picture celebrates a brainstorming session, where pupils collaborated to think of creative ways the school can recycle more effectively.

Sound Wave Scientists - LKS2

In Year 4, pupils have been diving into the science of sound, exploring how it travels and how different pitches are produced and measured. This picture captures the excitement of a hands-on experiment where pupils created their own string telephones and put them to the test on the playground. Through trial, error, and collaboration, they discovered how tension, length, and materials affect the way sound moves.

Roots of Discovery - UKS2

In Science, Year 6 pupils have been investigating the fascinating world of plant reproduction. They explored the different methods by which plants reproduce, from flowering and seed dispersal to asexual reproduction like runners and cuttings. Through hands-on activities and close observation, they discovered how plants ensure their survival and spread across different environments.
