Mission: Additional

Across all key stages, the primary curricular focus has been on developing a strong, flexible understanding of Number and Place Value, fostering speed (fluency), logical thinking (reasoning) and the ability to apply maths to solve problems.

From Zero to Hero - EYFS

Children in the Foundation Stage have been learning all about numbers and understanding how numbers are created and how they can be represented in different ways. They have been introduced to different manipulatives to support their learning. Children work collaboratively to encourage maths talk and sharing ideas.

Concrete Values, Abstract Places - KS1

In KS1, children have been used a range of manipulatives to understand number and place values. In Year Two, children have been using practical work moving towards the abstract. Through use of stem sentences and lots of partner talk children are beginning to explain their answers.

Two’th or Four’se - LKS2

Use of ‘true or false’ reasoning questions to test understanding and identify any misconceptions or gaps. Children explain why they have chosen the relevant answers.

Tens > Units - UKS2

Increased emphasis on partner work and oracy, supporting children’s confidence in their understanding of mathematical concepts. Children are encouraged to complete shared tasks before moving on to independent work.
