Soundwaves Set Free

As part of the implementation process, an ambitious and cohesive medium-term planning demonstrating the progression of core knowledge (substantive) and skills (disciplinary) pupils will acquire in their study of Music In each year group will be curated. The medium-term plan will feature an overarching enquiry question which will map out the learning journey of pupils including their extended experiences and learning outcomes. The medium-term plan will be translated into child-friendly enquiry questions which will guide the learning journey of the pupils. Impact of this implementation process will include clear and precise triangulation between the medium-term plans, pupils' learning (as seen during learning observations), extended learning experiences and pupils’ books.

Mammal Music - EYFS

In Nursery, the children have explored the different sounds that animals make through listening and sharing ideas through talking and role play. They have improvised sound effects of different animals through vocal sounds and body percussion. They also explored how different animals move which generated musical vocabulary around tempo such as ‘slow and fast’ as well as ‘slower and faster’. They then displayed their sense of tempo through performing an animal dance.

Beats Move Minds - KS1

Year 1 explored how music can convey a feeling or effect through their listening and responses. They listened to two contrasting pieces, one with a beat and the other with no obvious beat. They responded through paired talking and group movement. They experimented with emulating the musical effect of Space through the music of Brain Eno and improvised/composed their own sound effects which they appraised mixing these effects with the original music of Brian Eno’s ‘Ascent’.

Banding Together - LKS2

Year 4 attended the Brightsparks festival at the Royal Festival Hall. The London Philharmonic Orchestra performed Igor Stravinsky’s dazzling Petrushka, transporting them to a magical world of love, conflict and dancing puppets. Many year KS2 have also been taking part in ROCKSTEADY. A new opportunity that has been introduced this term where children are able to learn an instrument as part of bands, whilst being accredited by Trinity Laban Consevetoire.

Rule The Stage - UKS2
